The fox ran, the stone-kings looked on, and the princess did not stop.
This illustration shows a spoiled young princess hunting down a fox that she needs neither for food or clothing but simply to entertain her cruelty. Her forefathers were turned to stone by the witch of the forest for similar carelessness, and their spirits look on helplessly as she follows in their footsteps and draws closer to the same fate.
